North Tongu MP, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has urged parliament to expedite its investigation into last year’s Akosombo and Kpong dam spillages, which displaced approximately 30,000 people.
With the rainy season intensifying, there are fears of another spillage. Ablakwa emphasizes the need for urgency, noting that while the motion has been debated, the committee has yet to be formed.
In October 2023, a controlled spillage of the Akosombo Dam displaced residents in low-lying areas, particularly affecting North and Central Tongu districts.
Over 35,857 people were displaced, with homes and farmlands destroyed, necessitating government and charitable aid.
