The Minority in Parliament, led by Alexander Afenyo-Markin, plans to investigate the recent violent clashes in Obuasi, Ashanti Region, which left nine dead and several injured.
The violence reportedly stemmed from confrontations between local miners and military personnel securing AngloGold Ashanti’s operations.
Afenyo-Markin criticized the government for inaction, warning that Parliament will initiate its own inquiry if a credible investigation isn't launched.
He emphasized the urgency of addressing the conflict’s root causes to restore trust among stakeholders.
The MP underscored Parliament's responsibility to promote peaceful coexistence among local communities, mining firms, and security forces, ensuring businesses in mining areas can operate safely.
