Dr. Frank Bannor, a senior research fellow at the Institute of Economic Research and Public Policy (IERPP), criticized the Mahama administration's plan to re-register SIM cards. He called it financially reckless and unnecessary.
In a note to the media, Dr. Bannor questioned the logic behind this decision. He argued that the previous SIM registration already met its goals without extra costs.
“The last government spent millions registering SIM cards successfully,” he said. “Why should this government spend more money on redoing it?”
Dr. Bannor emphasized that this move lacks financial prudence. “It is unwise to waste money on this again,” he stated. He asked what new goals could be achieved that weren't met before.
He urged Parliament to intervene and stop the proposed plan. He warned about its potential impact on the country’s limited financial resources.
“This level of waste should not be allowed by Parliament,” he stressed. “Parliament must oppose this move by the government.”
Dr. Bannor also questioned the motives behind the new registration exercise. He suggested it might be part of a broader scheme for financial mismanagement.
“This looks like a create, loot, and share scheme by the government,” he said. “Re-registering our SIM cards doesn’t make financial sense.”
“If there were issues, they should use technology to fix them instead of wasting what has already been done,” he concluded.
