Parliament returns from Easter recess today

Parliament resumed sittings today, Tuesday, 27 May 2025. This marks the start of the Second Meeting of the First Session of the Ninth Parliament.

The resumption follows a recess during the Easter period. Members of Parliament are back to their legislative duties.

Lawmakers will engage in debates, committee work, and discussions on urgent matters.

A key highlight this session is the 2025 Mid-Year Budget Review. The Minister for Finance will present it in August.

Richard Acheampong, the Second Deputy Majority Whip, spoke to Citi FM about the agenda. He said ministers will make statements to assess their achievements from the past three months. They will also outline plans for the future. Mr. Acheampong noted that there is a packed agenda this sitting.

Before resuming, the Minority Caucus held a strategic retreat over the weekend. They evaluated their performance from the previous session and set priorities for this meeting. The retreat aimed to refine their oversight strategy as well.

Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin emphasized their readiness to be active and constructive. He stated they would hold opponents accountable while being responsible. He assured Ghanaians that they are ready to take power in 2028.
