Parliamentary Committee probes YEA-Zoomlion contract dispute to ensure transparency

The Parliamentary Committee on Sanitation and Water Resources is involved in a contract dispute. This dispute is between the Youth Employment Agency (YEA) and Zoomlion Ghana Limited. The committee aims to promote fairness and transparency in public contracts.

This intervention follows a petition from journalist Manasseh Azure Awuni. He asked President John Dramani Mahama to terminate their 19-year contract. Awuni cited alleged fraudulent practices as the reason for his request.

On Tuesday, May 13, the committee held a closed-door meeting with YEA officials. This meeting is part of a broader inquiry into the matter. The committee plans to present its findings to Parliament when it reconvenes.

John Oti Bless, the committee chairman, spoke to the media after the meeting. He emphasized that they aim to address this issue impartially. He highlighted their commitment to supporting Ghanaian businesses while ensuring accountability.

“Our goal is to find a solution and present our report,” he said. “The presidency will want our input based on this report.” He added that they want to clarify issues for the betterment of Ghana. While supporting local businesses, he stressed that wrongdoings must be corrected.
