Parliamentary committee backs tax reliefs for jobs, private sector

The Parliamentary Committee on Trade, Industry and Tourism has new plans. They aim to support the private sector more effectively. This includes introducing tax reliefs for businesses. The goal is to help companies expand and create jobs for youth.

During a visit to Zonda Tec Ghana Limited, Chairman Alexander Roosevelt spoke about unemployment. He reaffirmed the government's commitment to addressing this issue. Empowering private enterprises is crucial for job creation and economic growth.

"We support industries that follow our laws," he stated. "We also back those contributing significantly to our GDP." He emphasized the importance of engaging local workers.

Roosevelt promised tax reliefs and other support from parliament. "We want successful companies to grow and hire more people," he added.

Yang Yang, Managing Director of Zonda Tec Ghana Limited, raised concerns about recent tax changes. She said scrapping tax exemptions is hurting their operations as a vehicle assembly firm.

Yang urged the government to reconsider these policies. She believes they are essential for local manufacturers' success in Ghana's industrialization efforts.

"How can we assemble vehicles without supportive policies?" she asked. Previously, they paid no duty on materials at the harbor, but now they do. This change has greatly hindered their work, and she urged parliament to pass supportive legislation.
