Deputy Majority Leader Kweku Ricketts-Hagan has raised concerns about declining parliamentary standards.
He spoke on Adom FM’s Burning Issues. He linked this decline to clashes between the Minority and Majority caucuses in the 8th and 9th Parliaments. These conflicts have caused significant disruptions.
Ricketts-Hagan criticized some Members of Parliament (MPs). He said certain lawmakers engage in misconduct to seem hardworking to their constituents.
He shared his experience from the 7th, 8th, and 9th Parliaments. He noted that parliamentary values are deteriorating. “Parliamentary affairs require experience, not physical confrontations,” he stated.
He emphasized the roles of MPs. The Minority should scrutinize government policies, while the Majority supports them.
“My job is to push the government’s agenda,” he said. “If you are a boxer, go to the Bukom Arena.”
The Cape Coast South MP also called recent controversies over ministerial nominees a disgrace in Ghana’s parliamentary history.
