Passport Transition: Applicants given 90 days to complete old applications

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is working quickly to transition to the new chip-embedded passport system.

This change started on April 28, 2025.

Today, the ministry announced that about 30,000 applications are still in the old system. Of these, 7,900 applications have been paid but are incomplete.

Applicants with incomplete submissions will not need to pay again. They should visit the updated online platform at passport.mfa.gov.gh to finish their applications.

All pending applications from the old system must be completed within 90 days. Applicants who booked appointments using the old system should go to their Passport Application Centres (PACs) on their scheduled dates for biometric data capture.

For those who missed appointments on April 28 and 29, they should visit their PACs for further processing.

Anyone with questions can contact the ministry’s 24-hour hotline at 0302-754-200 for help.

The new chip-embedded passports aim to improve document security and meet international travel standards.
