Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has raised concerns over the high cost of passport applications in Ghana, calling it a financial strain on citizens.
Speaking on TV3, he emphasized that obtaining a passport is a fundamental right, not a luxury, and should be affordable for all, especially students and low-income earners.
Ablakwa, who was sworn in on February 7, pledged to review the pricing structure, explore subsidies, and leverage digitization to cut costs while maintaining efficiency.
He assured Ghanaians that making passport services more accessible would be a key priority.
He further called for public engagement and stakeholder consultations to ensure a fair and sustainable reform in the passport application process.
