The planned reduction in passport application fees will happen soon. The fee will drop from GH¢500 to GH¢350. However, this change requires Parliament's approval first.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, explained the situation. He stated that the new fee takes effect only when Parliament returns.
This fee adjustment is part of broader passport reforms starting on April 28, 2025. However, it still needs legislative approval before implementation.
On March 13, 2025, Mr. Ablakwa informed Parliament about the reduction. He said it was in response to public concerns about affordability.
He emphasized the government's commitment to keeping passport costs reasonable. They also aim to maintain strong security standards.
Parliament is currently on recess and will return in May. The exact date for their return has not been announced yet.
An amendment to the Fees and Charges Act will be presented then.
