On Tuesday, Patrick Yaw Boamah, the MP for Okaikwei Central, made a donation. He gave 1,000 packs of water and an undisclosed amount of money. This donation supports the Christian Council of Ghana's Easter activities.
The donation will help with events on Good Friday, Holy Saturday, and Easter Monday. These events include community picnics and gatherings.
During the presentation, Boamah highlighted the spirit of giving during Holy Week. Dr. Hilliard Dela Dogbe received the items on behalf of the Council. He expressed gratitude for the donation and its importance during Easter.
Easter is also known as Pascha or Resurrection Sunday. It commemorates Jesus Christ's resurrection and is a major Christian festival. The date varies each year based on a lunisolar calendar.
Key events leading up to Easter include Lent and Holy Week. Lent lasts 40 days and begins on Ash Wednesday with fasting and prayer. Holy Week includes several significant days:
- Palm Sunday marks Jesus’ entry into Jerusalem.
- Maundy Thursday commemorates the Last Supper.
- Good Friday observes Jesus' crucifixion and death.
- Holy Saturday is a day of reflection before Easter Sunday.
Easter Sunday celebrates Jesus' resurrection, symbolizing victory over death. This belief is foundational in Christianity and promises eternal life. Common symbols associated with Easter are eggs and lilies. Eggs represent the empty tomb, while lilies symbolize resurrection in Western traditions.
