Patrick Owusu Agyei urges comprehensive port reforms in Ghana

Patrick Owusu Agyei, CEO of PSG Express Ltd, highlighted challenges in Ghana’s port operations. He called for urgent reforms as the logistics sector faces pressure to modernize.

Agyei is known for creating GoFreight Technology. This platform is Ghana’s first integrated freight management system. Under his leadership, PSG Express Ltd has become a respected logistics company. They offer services like freight forwarding, customs clearance, and international shipping. His efforts have helped digitize Ghana’s logistics sector.

Mr. Agyei pointed out major inefficiencies at the ports. These include slow customs processes and limited data sharing among stakeholders. Bureaucratic red tape and outdated infrastructure also contribute to congestion.

He noted that these issues increase costs for businesses and reduce trade opportunities. "The time for strategic digital reform is now," he stated. "We must embrace automation and efficiency to stay competitive."

Agyei cited GoFreight Technology as proof of Ghana's potential for digital transformation. The platform uses AI for decision-making and blockchain for secure documentation. It also offers GPS tracking and cloud-based systems to reduce paperwork.

These innovations help decrease delays and improve transparency in trade logistics. GoFreight is gaining popularity among importers and customs agents across the country.

Mr. Agyei urged key national institutions to support digital systems' rollout. He emphasized the need for policy alignment with practice among agencies like GPHA and GRA. He also encouraged government consultations with private sector leaders for practical reforms.

"We cannot solve 21st-century logistics problems with 20th-century tools," he said. "Efficient movement of goods is vital for Ghana’s economy." This is crucial in light of AfCFTA's demands on regional trade standards.

Recognized both locally and internationally, Mr. Agyei has received several awards for his innovations in logistics.

As PSG Express Ltd grows, Agyei remains committed to building a supportive logistics ecosystem in Ghana. His vision includes expanding GoFreight across Africa and introducing drone delivery systems to enhance intra-African commerce.
