Pay Zakat to help address poverty in needy communities …Dr Bashiru admonishes Muslims - Ghanaian Times

Dr. Shani Bashiru, a Senior Lecturer at Accra Technical University, spoke about zakat. He urged Muslims to pay zakat frequently. Zakat is a mandatory charitable practice in Islam.

Zakat requires Muslims to give 2.5 percent of their annual earnings. This money goes to the poor and needy. Dr. Bashiru believes it can help eradicate poverty in Muslim communities.

He stated that zakat promotes social cohesion and solidarity. It also helps reduce inequalities related to resources and wealth. Muslims are encouraged to give this percentage to assist those in need.

Dr. Bashiru spoke at the 27th M.A Mujahid Annual Ramadan Lecture series in Accra. The event focused on "The Role of Islamic Charity (Zakat) in Strengthening Social Solidarity and Reducing Inequality." It was organized by the Ghana Academy of Muslim Professionals (GAMP).
