Pedestrians in Kumasi demand restoration of bollards for safety

Pedestrians on the Labour-Adum stretch in Kumasi are concerned about road safety. They urge the government to restore bollards for protection while crossing.

The removal of these bollards has created a dangerous situation. Drivers now frequently make U-turns, risking pedestrian lives. The Labour-Adum stretch is one of Kumasi's busiest roads.

Previously, bollards helped restrict dangerous U-turns and improved safety. Their removal has led to more reckless driving behavior. Pedestrians have shared their frustrations with Channel One News.

One pedestrian recounted a near-miss involving a pick-up truck. The driver attempted a shortcut during traffic, leading to a crash. Another pedestrian noted that tri-cycle operators use the area as a U-turn, creating fear when crossing.

They are appealing for urgent action to restore the bollards. This would prioritize pedestrian safety and reduce reckless driving.

Additionally, some road users are concerned about the zebra crossing near Asafo Market. They believe its location increases accident risks. "It's too close to the overhead," one pedestrian said.

Vehicles often descend quickly from the overhead, which can cause accidents if drivers need to stop suddenly. Police recently conducted operations against traffic violations but have not provided official responses yet.

In other news, the government has sacked Labour Commission Boss Ofosu Asamoah.
