Three men are on trial for trafficking nearly three tonnes of cocaine. They pleaded not guilty to multiple drug-related charges in the High Court in Accra.
The accused are Isaac Quaicoe, Kenneth Cobbinah, and Mawuko Kudufia. They face eight counts, including conspiracy to possess narcotics and trafficking. Other charges include using property for drug activities and money laundering.
Justice Ruby Aryeetey presided over the case. The court granted bail to all three men. Quaicoe and Kudufia received bail set at GH¢50 million each, requiring justification with property.
Cobbinah, a student at the University of Professional Studies, received bail of GH¢2 million with two sureties. The charges relate to events between March 1 and March 7, 2025.
Court documents state that the accused conspired to traffic 2,970 slabs of cocaine. This weighed approximately 2,974.63 kilograms. The drugs were allegedly hidden in a Sinotruk Howo truck intercepted at Pedu-Junction near Cape Coast.
Additionally, they allegedly trafficked an earlier consignment of 90 slabs on March 1 from Takoradi to Tuba-Brigade in Kasoa. Kudufia faces extra charges for using his residence for drug activities.
He is also charged with laundering $37,600 and CFA 13 million believed to be from drug trade proceeds. State Attorney Derriek Acrah-Nyamike presented the charges for the Attorney-General’s Department.
The accused are represented by lawyers Victor Kwadjoga Adawudu and Paul Asibi Abariga. The case has been adjourned until May 5, 2025, for further proceedings.
