Dr. William Ackaah, Principal Research Scientist at the Building and Road Research Institute, has criticized the neglect of essential road safety features like traffic lights, street lights, and road markings, which cost less than 10% of the road construction budget.
Speaking on JoyNews' ‘The Probe,’ he emphasized that prioritizing safety could significantly reduce fatal crashes.
Despite existing institutions responsible for these issues, major roads in Accra suffer from faulty lights and missing markings, posing serious risks.
Ackaah called the lack of action "a shame and very disappointing," urging a cultural shift towards valuing safety.
