People will be jailed for their wickedness to Ghanaians – Prof. Fosu-Mensah

Prof. Benedicta Yayra Fosu-Mensah, a member of the NDC communications team, criticized the NPP. She accused them of ignoring illegal mining, known as "galamsey," during their time in power. This negligence led to environmental damage and a lack of accountability.

Speaking on Good Morning Ghana with Afua Ampofo, she expressed frustration over the NPP's failure to prosecute those involved in illegal mining. Despite clear evidence and public outcry, no action was taken.

She stated, “A government at that time could commit such a crime, and yet nothing happened.” Prof. Fosu-Mensah emphasized that the NPP acted as if there was no wrongdoing while exploiting resources.

She referenced a report by former Minister Prof. Kwabena Frimpong-Boateng. This report detailed how some government officials were involved in galamsey activities. Instead of addressing the findings, she claimed the previous administration ignored it and attacked Frimpong-Boateng for speaking out.

“The very people who were supposed to fight galamsey were deeply involved,” she lamented. She also highlighted broader issues under the NPP government. Essential national assets have been abandoned while citizens face new taxes.

“How can you dump millions of dollars’ worth of cables in uncompleted buildings?” she questioned angrily. “What kind of wickedness is this?”

Prof. Fosu-Mensah warned that accountability is coming soon. She predicted that within four years, some individuals would face legal consequences for their actions.

“I’m not a prophet of doom,” she said, “but I can bet you people will go to jail.” She concluded by noting that many communities lack clean drinking water due to destroyed rivers from illegal mining activities.
