Persons sacked by Mahama gov’t will be reinstated with full back pay if NPP comes back to power – MP

Asafo-Adjei Ayeh is the Member of Parliament for Bosome Freho. He represents the New Patriotic Party (NPP). Ayeh stated that all appointees dismissed by President John Dramani Mahama will be reinstated in 2028.

He urged those sacked to keep their appointment letters safe. They will be reinstated with full back pay when the NPP returns to power. The NPP plans to calculate and pay all outstanding salaries owed to these individuals.

Ayeh also mentioned that current occupants of these positions would be removed. In an interview on Movement TV, he reassured dismissed appointees not to worry. He said, “When the NPP comes to power, all their back pay will be settled.”

He added that those currently in their positions would also be dismissed. They could then be employed by the incoming government.

On February 10, 2025, Chief of Staff Julius Debrah issued a letter. It directed heads of government institutions to nullify appointments made after December 7, 2024. Debrah stated these appointments did not comply with good governance practices.

Following this directive, state institutions began widespread dismissals of appointments. Felix Kwakye Ofosu, Minister of State for Government Communication, defended this cancellation. He claimed the previous government bypassed due process for last-minute appointments.

Kwakye Ofosu noted some individuals did not apply or interview for their positions. He also mentioned that appointment letters were backdated but no payments were made since employment began.
