Petition targets former Attorney-General over alleged ethical breaches in Ato Forson trial

A formal complaint has been filed with the General Legal Council (GLC). It seeks disciplinary action against former Attorney-General Godfred Yeboah Dame. The allegations involve professional misconduct in a criminal trial. This trial includes Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson and others.

The petition was submitted by Daniel Kwame Ofosu-Appiah, a Ghanaian citizen. He claims Mr. Dame violated legal ethics by communicating privately with Richard Jakpa, the third accused.

The complaint centers on an audio recording admitted as court evidence. This recording allegedly shows Mr. Dame trying to influence Jakpa’s testimony. WhatsApp messages support this claim, indicating inappropriate contact.

Ofosu-Appiah argues that Mr. Dame's actions breach several rules of conduct. These rules cover honesty, witness interference, and maintaining justice integrity. He believes such behavior undermines public confidence in Ghana’s legal system.

The petitioner calls this matter urgent and of public interest. He urges the GLC’s Disciplinary Committee to impose sanctions on Mr. Dame. Possible sanctions include suspension or removal from the roll of lawyers.

He insists that decisive action is necessary to protect Ghana’s legal institutions' credibility.
