Petition to remove CJ: Justice Torkornoo requests for petition from the president …to prepare for trial - Ghanaian Times

Chief Justice Gertrude Araba Asaaba Sackey Torkornoo has made a request to President John Dramani Mahama. She asked for copies of the petitions seeking her removal from office.

In a letter sent to the President, she noted this request came after consultations with the Council of State. Justice Torkornoo believes receiving the petitions will help her respond adequately.

She wrote, “I am humbly asking His Excellency the President and members of the Council of State to forward the petitions against me.” She requested at least seven days to provide her response.

This response would be part of the materials for consultations under Article 146 (6). It may also be used before setting up a Committee of Inquiry under Article 146 (7).

Justice Torkornoo emphasized that due process requires notifying an accused judge about any removal petition. This allows them to respond appropriately.
