Petition to remove CJ is not politically motivated - Adawuda

Victor Adawudu is part of the legal team for the National Democratic Congress (NDC). He stated that the petition to remove Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo is not politically motivated.

Mr. Adawudu addressed concerns about the petition's intentions. He emphasized that the legal action is based on legitimate grounds. It also follows constitutional procedures.

"People think it is politically motivated, but it is not," he said. He made these comments during a discussion on JoyNews' Newsfile on March 29.

The petition was filed by three unknown individuals. It alleges misconduct and abuse of power by Chief Justice Torkornoo.

In response, President John Mahama has started consultations with the Council of State. This follows Article 146 of the 1992 Constitution, which mandates this process to assess the claims.

This situation has sparked discussions among legal experts and politicians. Some express concerns about possible political influences. Others stress the importance of maintaining judicial accountability.
