Kwaku Ansa-Asare, former Director of the Ghana School of Law, is worried. He sees a growing public humiliation of the judiciary. He believes this trend could harm Ghana’s democratic institutions.
Ansa-Asare spoke on Eyewitness News on April 23, 2025. He warned that ongoing petitions against Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo threaten judicial integrity. He called for national reflection and a careful approach to judicial matters.
He said, “We have singled out one institution for humiliation and mockery.” He added that this tarnishes the image of Ghana's judiciary. Ansa-Asare noted that targeting Justice Torkornoo could damage the country's reputation.
He acknowledged President John Dramani Mahama's constitutional actions regarding these petitions. However, he urged caution in handling future petitions.
“Any more petition should be handled with care and circumspection,” he advised. His comments contribute to discussions about judicial independence and public discourse on legal issues.
