Dr. Tony Aubynn is the CEO of the Petroleum Hub Development Corporation. He recently stated that the previous government did not release GH₵250 million for land compensation. This money was meant for the Petroleum Hub project.
During a visit to the Western Nzema Traditional Area, he discussed this issue with local chiefs. Dr. Aubynn said unresolved compensation is a major challenge for the project. The Petroleum Hub will be located at Nawule in the Jomoro District.
The project plans to build a refinery, storage tanks, and a jetty. It is expected to create over 780,000 jobs. In 2024, a $12 billion agreement was signed, and a sod-cutting ceremony took place.
Despite these developments, Dr. Aubynn noted several obstacles remain. He emphasized that outstanding land compensation is currently the main issue.
Nana Avo Nwiah, Chief of Tsikobo Number-2, spoke on behalf of other chiefs. He expressed their support for the project but urged immediate payment of crop compensation. He also called for local employment when construction begins.
Dr. Aubynn reassured the chiefs about his commitment to resolving these issues. He aims to foster collaboration with local communities as the project moves forward.
