Residents of Atsiame, a suburb of Kpetoe in the Volta Region, are relieved. They no longer have to rely on unsafe water. This change follows the construction of two mechanized boreholes.
The project was initiated and financed by Ing. Joshua Stanley Kavianu, a local philanthropist.
Background
Previously, residents depended on untreated water from Todzi River. This river is a tributary of the Volta Lake that flows through their community. During the wet season, they also collected rainwater. However, they faced water scarcity during the dry season when the river dried up.
Residents expressed their concerns about drinking unsafe water from Tordze. They knew it could cause health issues but had no other choice. Felicia Adzimah, a resident, said, “Getting potable water has been a challenge for us over the years.”
Some residents who can afford it buy clean water from Ho city. Ho is about a 30-minute drive from Kpetoe.
Mechanized Borehole Project
Thanks to Ing. Joshua Stanley Kavianu's generous intervention, things have improved for residents. He financed two mechanized boreholes for the community.
Kavianu was moved by their struggles and wanted to help them access clean water for daily use. He hopes this project will improve their situation while they wait for supplies from Ghana Water Limited.
Eric Soku, the Assembly Member for Kpetoe South Electoral Area, praised the project as “life-changing.” He promised to encourage residents to maintain the facility properly.
“We are happy to have this facility,” he said. “We hope to take care of it so it serves us and future generations.”
