Photo of Sam George and Adu Boahene pops up amidst claims GH¢960K payment to MPs

A photo has surfaced of Communication Minister Sam George and former NSB Director Kwabena Adu-Boahene. This follows claims that GH¢960,000 of the alleged GH¢49 million stolen funds was used to pay MPs.

Adu-Boahene stated that the money paid members of Parliament's Defence and Interior Committee. This payment aimed to speed up the passage of the National Signals Bureau Act (2020). However, Sam George was not a member of this committee.

Sam George served on the Public Accounts Committee and the Communications Committee in Parliament. Adu-Boahene claimed in a letter from EOCO custody that the GH¢960,000 was part of expenditures for 2020/2021. He insisted it was for enacting the NSB Act 2020.

He denied any wrongdoing, stating he and his wife would never steal public funds. He questioned how one could steal without being flagged by the Auditor-General. Adu-Boahene expressed concern about misrepresentation by EOCO boss Raymond Archer.

He requested urgent intervention to prevent embarrassment to the government and national security. Meanwhile, Adu-Boahene, his wife Angela Adjei-Boateng, and two others face charges for theft, fraud, money laundering, and conspiracy. An Accra High Court has remanded Adu-Boahene into EOCO custody.
