President John Mahama is attending the 60th Annual Meeting of the African Development Bank (AfDB) in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire.

During a panel discussion, he praised the Ghanaian cedi's recent appreciation against the US dollar. He called this a positive development for Ghana's economy.

Mahama shared his views on achieving sustainable development in Africa. He emphasized reducing reliance on external loans and effective debt management strategies.

He also discussed how his administration has managed Ghana’s economy over the past five months. He highlighted interventions that stabilized the fiscal environment since his return to office.

The AfDB Annual Meetings began on May 26 and will end on May 30. A key highlight will be electing a new president to succeed Dr. Akinwumi A. Adesina, whose term is ending.

Over 6,000 delegates are attending this event. This includes heads of state, finance ministers, central bank governors, and other stakeholders.

This year’s theme is: "Making Africa's Capital Work Better for Africa's Development."
