Photos: Thousands of Muslims observe Eid al-Adha 2025 at Independence Square

Thousands of Muslims gathered at Independence Square in Accra on Friday. They came to celebrate Eid al-Adha, the Festival of Sacrifice.

The event included communal prayers and reflections on sacrifice and unity. There were also calls for peace and national cohesion.

The celebration began with special Eid prayers. Muslims from various backgrounds united to honor Prophet Ibrahim's faith. He was willing to sacrifice his son in obedience to God.

President John Mahama addressed the crowd, offering hope to Ghanaian Muslims. He promised lower Hajj fares next year if the cedi remains stable. This shows his government’s commitment to their welfare.

During his speech at Black Star Square, the President recognized financial burdens families face. He assured the Muslim community that his administration is working with partners to reduce costs.

This act of devotion is central to Islam's teachings. It was honored through collective worship and reflection during the event.

The celebrations also included Qurbani, the ritual sacrifice of animals like goats and sheep. This honors Prophet Ibrahim's devotion.

The meat from these sacrifices was shared among family, friends, and those in need. This embodies the spirit of charity that defines Eid al-Adha.

This year's celebration at Independence Square reminded everyone of faith's power. It highlighted unity in shaping a peaceful and prosperous society.
