Efforts to improve sanitation and education in rural Ghana have received a boost. Plan International Ghana has intervened in 16 communities. These are located in the Jasikan Municipality of the Oti Region and the West Mamprusi Municipality in the North East Region.
The organization’s I-PADEV project addresses poor sanitation, lack of clean water, and low school enrollment. This initiative has significantly transformed lives in these communities.
As a result, 16 communities are now declared Open Defecation Free (ODF). In Jasikan Municipality, these include Asele, Lekanti, Nanankor, Udey, Atwereboana, Atonkor, Akaa, Koensim, Ketsi Nkwanta, and Dzoku. In West Mamprusi Municipality, the ODF communities are Boayini 1 and 2, Kpabugu, Zanguga, and Sagadugu 1 and 2.
On Friday at Koensim, Mr. Benoni Nyasorgbor spoke to journalists. He is the headmaster of Koensim M/A Primary and Junior High School. He shared that before the intervention, the school lacked proper sanitation facilities. Students had to relieve themselves in nearby bushes.
