Four Armed Robbers Killed in Police Operation
Four armed robbers have been killed by the Bekwai/Fomena Police.
The deceased robbers are identified as Samson (aka Sammy Tugah), W.K, Daniel, and Efo. A fifth person was injured and is now in the Bekwai Government Hospital.
ACP Joseph Nyaaba, the Ashanti South Regional Police Commander, briefed the media. He said these robbers have been terrorizing residents of Adansi and Amansie for some time.
He listed eight incidents where this group harmed innocent people during robberies. Earlier this month, they robbed the Adansi Rural Bank at Fomena.
They also set up a roadblock on the Akrokerri-Anwiankwanta road to rob passengers. Last Saturday, police received intelligence about a robbery at a mining site near Sanfo Aduam.
When police arrived, the suspects opened fire. The police returned fire, hitting five of them. Four were pronounced dead at Bekwai hospital; one is receiving treatment.
The police recovered an AK-47 rifle taken by the robbers in February. They also found two pump-action guns, seven live rounds of ammunition, and 17 AA cartridges.
