Police arrest Cameroonian for internet fraud and human trafficking

The Ashanti Regional Police Command has arrested a 29-year-old Cameroonian. He is accused of internet fraud and human trafficking.

Bella Merie was taken into custody on April 7. He was arrested with 43 other Cameroonians at his home in Kenyasi Abrem, Kwabre East Municipality.

Police investigations revealed that he fraudulently obtained 4.5 million CFA Francs. This money came from 32 males and 11 females. They were misled into believing they would get jobs in Ghana.

A statement from Deputy Superintendent of Police Godwin Ahianyo confirmed these details. He is the Ashanti Regional Public Relations Officer for the Ghana Police Service. The police found that Merie used a scam method known as Q-NET.

The victims, aged between 22 and 38 years, have been transferred to the Ghana Immigration Service. They will undergo immigration procedures before being sent back to Cameroon.

The statement emphasized the Ghana Police Service's commitment to fighting fraud. It also highlighted their dedication to protecting citizens and lawful foreign residents in the country.
