A confrontation between police and supporters of a candidate in the Ashanti Region’s Council of State election re-run has led to the arrest of one person.

The suspect, reportedly a supporter of former NDC Chairman Yaw Obimpeh, was detained for defying police barricades at the election venue.

Today’s re-run follows last week’s disruption, where thugs attacked Electoral Commission officials and destroyed ballot materials.

In response, security has been tightened with six police-manned barricades, traffic restrictions, and a heavy police presence at the Prempeh Assembly Hall.
