Police arrest suspect in nationwide vehicle rental fraud syndicate

The Greater Accra Regional Police Command has arrested a 37-year-old man. He is known as Nana Anderson and has several aliases. These include Anderson Nana Abeka, Essel Kofi Elvis, and Willson Kojo Bismark. He is linked to a nationwide car theft and rental fraud syndicate.

On April 11, the police issued a statement about his arrest. Anderson was apprehended on April 5, 2025, in Atasemanso, Kumasi. His arrest followed investigations into multiple vehicle theft cases across the country.

The police reported that on March 25, 2025, Anderson contacted a car rental partner. He fraudulently rented a Hyundai Elantra with registration number GT 114-25. He used forged ECOWAS identity and driver’s license cards for this deception.

These fake documents had different names but featured his photograph. The rental partner released the vehicle at Community 25 in Accra. After acquiring the car, Anderson did not return it and disabled its tracking system.

This raised alarms and led to an investigation. Further inquiries revealed that he is part of a larger syndicate. Between January and March 2025, they used similar methods to steal other vehicles.

These included a Kia Forte from Haatso and a Honda Civic from Amasaman. They also stole another Kia from Spintex in the Greater Accra Region. It is believed that Anderson received GH₵4,000 for each stolen vehicle.

During questioning, Anderson admitted to his crimes. He then led police to Millennium City to find his accomplice Gideon Baah, also known as Nan. However, Baah was not found at the location and remains at large.

The police have charged Nana Anderson in court as investigations continue. They are actively working to track down Gideon Baah. The Command urges the public, especially those in car rentals, to stay vigilant. Report any suspicious individuals or transactions to the nearest police station.
