Police chase father of SDA SHS student who shot 2 students

Police Pursue Father of Suspect in SDA SHS Shooting

Police in the Ashanti Region are searching for Bernard Amoateng. He is the father of the main suspect in the Kumasi Bantama SDA Senior High School shooting. The suspect, a student, wounded two others with a gun that belonged to his father.

The police are investigating unlawful possession of firearms. They want Amoateng to assist with their inquiries. The gun used in the April 4 incident was locally manufactured.

One of the victims, Suzzy Penamang, may lose her sight due to her injuries. Families affected by the shooting have called for justice and assistance from the public.

Efforts to arrest Amoateng have not yet succeeded. Police confirm they are actively looking for him and have seized empty cartridges as evidence. The gun was loaded with BB ammunition when it was brought to school.

The headmistress, Grace Kafui Ayi, submitted a report about the incident. She detailed the suspect's movements leading up to the shooting. Notably, he attended classes secretly as a day student despite being a boarder.

Some students question why school authorities did not check on his health after an absence. The suspect had been granted permission to visit a hospital but failed to return on time.

On April 16, the suspect made his first court appearance at Atwima Twedie court. He has been remanded for two weeks while investigations continue into this serious incident.
