The Ghana Police Service has confirmed the safe return of two women. Evelyn Serwaa Konadu and Anastasia Baidoo were kidnapped in Nigeria. They were lured by people pretending to be romantic partners online. Upon arriving in Nigeria, they were abducted.
Their situation gained national attention after a distressing video went viral. This sparked public concern and outrage across the country. In response, the Ghana Police Service worked with the National Signals Bureau (NSB) and Nigerian Police Force. Together, they launched a cross-border rescue operation.
This operation successfully recovered the victims and arrested eight suspects. The suspects were found at various hideouts in Ghana and Nigeria. Security agencies cooperated closely to bring them to justice.
Upon their return to Ghana, DCOP Lydia Yaako Donkor spoke to the media. She addressed reporters at the Police Headquarters in Accra on May 9. She urged the public to be cautious when engaging with strangers online, especially regarding personal or financial matters.
