Police escort and driver shot in robbery attack on Buipe-Sunyani route

A police officer, Samuel Atitsogbe, and a driver, Bright Fourjour, sustained severe gunshot injuries after armed robbers ambushed a passenger bus on the Techiman-Sunyani Highway.

The incident occurred near Ashiemu as the bus traveled from Buipe to Sunyani.

The officer, who suffered chest and wrist injuries, is currently receiving treatment at the Sunyani Teaching Hospital, where doctors have confirmed his condition is stable.

The driver also sustained multiple gunshot wounds during the attack.

Witnesses reported that the robbers stopped the lead vehicle and engaged in a shootout with the police escort before overpowering him when his weapon failed.

The assailants seized his rifle, robbed the passengers of valuables, and fled. Authorities are investigating the incident to apprehend the culprits.
