Police file injunction against anti-galamsey demo at Jubilee House

The Ghana Police Service has obtained a restriction order. This order affects a three-day anti-galamsey demonstration. The protest is organized by the Generational Right Protection Society (GRPS). It is set to take place at the Jubilee House.

The Police informed the group about the application. A hearing is scheduled at the Accra High Court on Friday, April 25, 2025.

Media personality Okatakyie Afrifa-Mensah leads the protest. It will occur from Monday, April 28, to Wednesday, April 30. The aim is to demand government action against irresponsible mining activities.

These activities are harming Ghana’s forests, water bodies, and communities. Afrifa-Mensah mentioned that the protest could last up to a month. This depends on how participants behave during the event.

In an interview on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem, he clarified their intentions. He stated that this protest is not meant to create discontent or harm the government’s reputation. He emphasized that unless there is a court injunction, citizens will exercise their civil rights freely.
