Police foil armed robbery attack on Kumasi-Bibiani Highway 

Ghana Police Prevent Armed Robbery

The Nkawie Divisional Police Patrol Team quickly intervened to stop an armed robbery. This incident occurred on Monday, June 2, 2025, around 7:30 p.m. It took place between Ahwerewa and Esaase on the Kumasi–Bibiani highway.

Five armed men intercepted two Sprinter buses at gunpoint. One suspect had a pump-action shotgun. They were robbing passengers when police arrived.

Upon seeing the police, one suspect opened fire. Officers returned fire and fatally wounded him. The injured suspect later died at Afari Government Hospital.

The other four suspects fled into nearby bushes and are still at large. Police believe some may have sustained gunshot wounds during the exchange.

The Ashanti Regional Police Command urged medical facilities to report any gunshot injuries to them. The deceased suspect's body is at Afari Government Hospital morgue for investigation.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Godwin Ahianyo praised the Nkawie Patrol Team for their bravery and professionalism. Their quick response prevented a potentially tragic situation.

Authorities ask the public to cooperate with police by providing timely information to aid law enforcement efforts in the region.
