The Nkawie Divisional Police Patrol team stopped an armed robbery on the Kumasi-Bibiani highway. This incident occurred on Monday, June 2, 2025, around 7:30 p.m.
Five armed suspects had halted two Sprinter buses. They were robbing passengers at gunpoint between Ahwerewa and Esaase.
According to a press statement from the Ghana Police Service, one suspect fired at the patrol team when they arrived. The officers quickly returned fire and fatally wounded him.
A medical doctor later confirmed his death at Afari Government Hospital. The other four suspects fled the scene and are still at large.
Police believe some fleeing suspects may have gunshot wounds. They urge medical professionals to be vigilant for such cases.
The police asked all medical facilities to report any patients with gunshot injuries to them. The deceased suspect's body is now in the Afari Government Hospital morgue for investigation.
