Police officer dies in motor accident while visiting pregnant wife

The Asokwa Divisional Police Command in the Ashanti Region has reported the death of General Corporal Samuel Okonegye. He was stationed at the Trede Police Station.

The incident occurred on Sunday, May 25, 2025, around 4:00 pm. G/Cpl Okonegye had permission to visit his wife. She is eight months pregnant and lives in Breman Esikuma.

While riding a motorbike on the Assin Nsuta stretch, he collided with a tipper truck. The truck's registration number is AS 9475-19. It was driven by Isaac Kumi at the time of the crash.

Unfortunately, G/Cpl Okonegye did not survive the impact. His body is now at St. Francis Xavier Hospital in Assin Fosu. Plans are being made to transfer it to the Police Hospital Morgue in Accra.

The Ghana Police Service expressed deep regret over this loss. They will provide more details about the incident and arrangements soon.
