Police officer, four others killed in tragic crash on Accra-Kumasi highway; tipper truck driver arrested

A fatal accident at Juaso-Yawkwei on the Accra-Kumasi highway on Friday, March 21, claimed five lives, including a police officer.

The crash, which occurred around 1 p.m., involved a Toyota saloon car (GW 532-11) and a cargo truck (AW 2808-22). Four victims died on the spot, while the fifth succumbed to injuries at Yawkwei Steward Hospital.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the tipper truck driver attempted a wrongful overtaking, leading to a head-on collision with the saloon car.

Among the deceased was Adams Mohammed, a police officer stationed at Asante Akyem Agogo.

The bodies have been deposited at the Steward Hospital morgue, while the tipper truck driver and his mate have been arrested as investigations continue.
