Police officer who resigned to campaign for Mahama confirmed Akuapem North MCE

Corporal John Evans Ayerakwa Kumordzie has been confirmed as the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Akuapem North.

He is a former policeman who resigned in 2019. He left the Ghana Police Service to campaign for President John Mahama.

Kumordzie's confirmation came after Mahama nominated 33 individuals as MMDCEs for the Eastern Region.

He received 32 'YES' votes and 16 'NO' votes. This means he secured 66.7 percent of the valid votes cast.

Previously, Kumordzie ran as a parliamentary candidate for the NDC in 2020. He lost to Dan Botwe in Okere.

In 2024, at age 40, he moved to Akuapem North and contested again. However, he lost to NPP's Sammy Awuku.

In 2019, Kumordzie submitted his resignation letter to IGP David Asante-Apeatu. He did this according to the Police Service Act.

After his confirmation, Eastern Regional Minister Rita Akosua Awatey Adjei led him in swearing the oath of office and secrecy.
