The Ghana Police Service is investigating an alleged assault on Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin. This incident occurred during a protest against the possible removal of Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo on May 5.
Afenyo-Markin reported that Constable Forson struck him in the chest. He was approaching a barricade to present a petition during the demonstration.
On May 6, DCOP Lydia Yaako Donkor spoke to journalists at the Police Headquarters in Accra. She confirmed that they have requested information from the Speaker of Parliament for their investigation.
"We all saw videos on social media about this altercation," she said. "We also captured it on our cameras, so it’s under investigation."
DCOP Donkor added, "If it's an assault or confrontation, we will investigate." They have identified police officers present at the scene and taken statements. Updates will be provided as the investigation progresses.
