Police probe death of officer during anti-galamsey operation

The Ghana Police Service is investigating the death of General Constable John Kwabena Dogbetey.

This incident happened on April 3, 2025, in Assin Dansame, Central Region.

Constable Dogbetey was part of an Anti-Galamsey Taskforce from the Assin Foso Police Division.

While dismantling a chamfan machine used for illegal mining, he was shot.

His colleagues rushed him to St. Francis Xavier Hospital in Assin Foso, but he died there.

The police confirmed that investigations are underway to find out how he died.

They have assured the public and his family that they will uncover the truth.

ASPINA FRANCIS O. ONYINA, Public Affairs Director for the Central North Region, stated that the police are supporting the deceased’s family during this time.

To preserve evidence, police have taken custody of the firearm involved in the shooting.

Additionally, the task force dismantled other machines and seized three excavators along with other mining equipment.
