The Ghana Police Service has denied allegations about four officers being detained. These claims were made after the officers arrested a judge for a traffic offense. The police described the reports as false and without merit.
Superintendent Joseph Benefo Darkwah, from the Public Affairs Unit, issued a statement. He said the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) dismissed media reports about the officers' detention.
The allegations came from a petition submitted on April 7, 2025. A Circuit Court judge claimed that on December 13, 2024, four officers harassed her and assaulted her court clerk. She also stated they wrongfully towed her vehicle from the Adenta Court Complex.
The judge noted that she had filed a formal complaint with the Adenta Divisional Command but received no response. Following this petition, the CID began an investigation.
Officers involved—Inspector Francis Adjei, G/Sgt Dasebre Oti Boateng, and G/Cpl Jonah Ajubulisa—were invited to provide statements at CID Headquarters. Superintendent Darkwah clarified that none of these officers were detained during this process.
He stated, "At no point were the officers detained." He urged the public to disregard false publications regarding this matter.
The police administration assured that investigations would follow due process. They reaffirmed their commitment to supporting officers who perform their duties lawfully while addressing misconduct allegations thoroughly.
This clarification followed media reports claiming that the IGP ordered the detention of these four police officers for arresting a judge over a traffic offense.
