Calm has returned to Adoagyiri in the Eastern Region. This follows violent clashes between youth groups on Thursday, May 22.
The Eastern South Regional Police Command reported that about 300 young people protested. They blocked roads, burned tires, and vandalized shops and vehicles.
In response, a team from the National Police Headquarters was sent to restore order. The police confirmed that calm has been restored in Adoagyiri.
The violence is linked to a fatal shooting on Monday, May 20. One person died and another was injured during this incident. A subsequent reprisal attack left three others injured, who were taken to the hospital.
One of the injured victims, Isaah Masawudu, later died at the hospital. His death caused outrage among youth in the Adoagyiri Zongo community. This led to the violent protests.
Police are working to arrest those involved in the violence. They assured that all will face legal consequences.
The Police Command urges residents to remain calm as investigations continue. They emphasized their commitment to maintaining law and order in Adoagyiri and nearby areas.
