The Ghana Police Service, in collaboration with the Military, has restored calm in Nkwanta and surrounding areas in the Oti Region following communal clashes that claimed five lives and injured five others.

The violent unrest, reportedly linked to a longstanding communal dispute, also led to the destruction of eight buildings and one shop.

The injured victims are receiving medical care, while the deceased have been sent to the morgue for preservation and further investigation.

Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Dr. George Akuffo Dampare personally engaged local chiefs via phone, urging them to support peace efforts.

Additionally, the Oti Regional Police Commander has been meeting with community leaders to strengthen peace-building initiatives.

A statement issued on January 17 by ACP Grace Ansah-Akrofi, Director of Public Affairs, reaffirmed the commitment of security forces to ensure residents' safety and maintain order.

Investigations are underway to uncover the cause of the clashes and prevent further violence.
