The Eastern South Regional Police Command restored calm in Adoagyiri on May 22, 2025. This followed violent clashes between rival youth groups that disrupted the community's peace.
On May 23, the Ghana Police Service released a statement. It reported that about 300 youths blocked roads, set fires to tires, and vandalized shops and vehicles. The unrest led to reinforcement teams from the National Police Headquarters being deployed.
Investigations showed that violence began after a shooting incident on May 20, 2025. This incident resulted in one death and injuries to others. A reprisal attack followed, injuring three individuals who were later hospitalized.
One victim, Isaah Masawudu, died from his injuries at the hospital. His death fueled anger among local youth, leading to further violent reprisals.
The Police Service is working to arrest all those involved in the violence. They assured the public that responsible individuals will face legal consequences. Meanwhile, police are urging residents of Adoagyiri and nearby areas to remain calm as they maintain order and prevent further unrest.
