Police service gets new CID Director General after management shake-up

In a significant move for Ghana's law enforcement, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dr. George Akuffo Dampare has appointed Lydia Yaako Donkor as the new Director-General of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID). This elevation marks a pivotal moment in the history of the Ghana Police Service, as Donkor becomes one of the few women to hold such a high-ranking position within the organization.

The IGP praised Donkor’s extensive experience and commitment to enhancing investigative practices, highlighting her previous roles where she demonstrated exemplary leadership and dedication. Her appointment is seen as a strategic decision aimed at improving efficiency within the CID and fostering greater trust between law enforcement and communities.

Donkor’s promotion not only underscores the police service's commitment to gender inclusivity but also reflects ongoing efforts to modernize its operations in response to contemporary challenges in crime prevention and investigation. As she steps into this crucial role, there are high expectations for her to drive reforms that will strengthen public safety across Ghana.
