Investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas has warned politicians against undermining the media following his $18 million defamation victory against Kennedy Agyapong in a U.S. court.
Anas described the ruling as a firm rejection of character assassination, emphasizing the high burden of proof for defamation in the U.S.
Drawing comparisons to Ghana, he criticized the Accra High Court’s 2018 decision that dismissed his defamation case against Agyapong despite a lack of evidence against him.
Anas cited Supreme Court Justice Kulendi’s condemnation of the ruling as a “violent abuse of judicial authority.”
He reaffirmed his commitment to fighting corruption and ensuring accountability, stressing that the media plays a vital role in democracy and will not be silenced by political intimidation.
