Politicisation of Bawku crisis unfortunate – Bawumia

Former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has criticized the politicization of the Bawku crisis. This conflict is in the Upper East Region of Ghana.

During the NPP’s national Thank You tour on Tuesday, he spoke in the Western North Region. He said some politicians are exploiting the situation for their own interests. He called this behavior “unfortunate.”

Dr. Bawumia stated, "The politicization of the crisis in Bawku is very unfortunate." He emphasized that some people act for their own gain, not for peace.

He accused others of spreading lies about him. They claimed he was buying guns for Mamprusis to attack Kusasis. He expressed sadness upon hearing these false accusations.

He noted that even some NPP members believed and spread this propaganda. Over time, he believes God has exposed those who lied against him.

Dr. Bawumia said recent events show that the NDC lied for political advantage. "Today, everyone has seen their lies," he added.

He urged unity to achieve lasting peace in Bawku. He also called on politicians to stop using the crisis for political gain.

"As politicians, we must be careful with chieftaincy issues," he warned. The NDC's actions have backfired on them, he said.

"I want peace in Bawku more than anyone else," Dr. Bawumia concluded. He hopes Otumfuo's mediation team will bring much-needed peace to the area.
